Why I eat saturated fats and you should too

Interestingly enough, when you understand how saturated fats work in your body, you realize their positive effects on your body. Additionally, most of the time, we don’t even take the time to define them or understand what they mean in the context of our health. For instance, 60 percent of your brain and 50 percent of your cells membranes are made up of saturated fats. Also, this fat can regulate blood sugar by slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates, containing high amounts of essential fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, and K2, and boosting metabolism.

NOW, believe me, I AM NOT saying to eat a diet high in saturated fat. All I am saying is don’t AVOID IT! Not all saturated fats are created equal, and yes, saturated fats are the ones that raise cholesterol but try to hear me out on this one. You can find saturated fat in various sources, such as animal-based and plant-based foods. The fat comprises different fatty acids, so saturated fat isn’t the same since it varies on its source. For example, take avocados, fruit, and olive oil. These items contain saturated fat, but all of which are higher in the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) happy cholesterol vs. red meat and dairy, which is higher in the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) loser cholesterol.

So, in my opinion, you shouldn’t be scared of saturated fat. I consume about 20-30 percent of my calories from fat every day. It satisfies my hunger, keeps my energy going, and stabilizes my blood sugar. Saturated fats used in the right amounts with additional combinations of protein and carbohydrates can get you to a more healing mindset and enjoy excellent tasting food again.
